A new Australian footwear brand inspired by Latin American resourcefulness looks set to make a colourful addition to the shoe market. Ropes sandals are modelled on shoes typically worn in central America, made entirely of polypropylene rope. Ropes sandals are machine washable, saltwater and chlorine resistant, extremely durable and overall very comfortable. Available  in two unisex styles and a range of colours from neutrals to hot splashes such as purple and red, the shoes are handcrafted from soft polypropylene rope, are water resistant (both salt and chlorine), durable and machine washable. Featuring flexible support and traction, Ropes also mould easily to feet and offer lightweight breathability as well as style. Ropes founder Jonathan O’Brien said it was hoped the brand would become a household name over time.

“I’m trying to build the brand as a surf/leisure lifestyle label that can be sold anywhere, form surf shops with the big labels to small boutiques and resort shops. They are perfect for the beach and great for just wearing around the house or to the shops and this is what I want to convey.”

Ropes was on show at the Australian Shoe Fair from 14-16 February at the Sydney Exhibition Centre.
