Shoes make a man, it is said. “Portraits of Shoes, Stories of Feet” [Portraits de Chaussures, Histoires de Pieds], a collaborative exhibit organized by the Alliance Francaise and French Embassy and the Yuchengco Museum, will surely bare tall impressive stories about the French and the Pinoys then and now. A dialogue between the old and modern, the exhibit will present museum pieces alongside works by contemporary artists in the form of drawings, photographs, videos, and installations.The French half of the exhibit, “Portrait of Shoes,” showcases 62 pairs of footwear from the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries from the collection of the Romans International Footwear Museum and renowned French fashion houses

This traveling shoe collection is curated by Yves Sabourin, who brought the successful exhibit “Christian Lacroix Dialogues” to the Philippines in 2006.The Pinoy half of the show, “Stepping in Pinoy Style,” is curated by Yuchengco Museum and features traditional Filipino footwear such as the venerable bakya and beaded cochos, some pieces from the Marikina Shoe Museum collection, and models by local designers Lila Almario, Cesar Gaupo, Emi Jorge, Brian Tenorio, Ann Pamintuan, Maco Custodio, Joanna Litton, and Kermit Tesoro.Shoeaholics and closet Imeldifics are more than welcome. The exhibit opens to the public on April 29 at the Yuchengco Musuem and runs until June 20.
